About Wesley

Wesley Mauldin comes from a long line of farmers rooted in the plains of West Texas. The family history runs back through Oklahoma wheat farmers and the Texas sharecroppers of the 1930s, people who worked hard ground and sacrificed so the next generations could take chances they never had. Their work ethic, humility, and respect for the land shaped him early, and he carries that legacy forward in a modern way: regenerative agriculture, soil stewardship, and landscape design that balances ecological function with lasting beauty.

Wesley has spent close to two decades with his hands in the ground. He studied plant sciences at West Texas A&M University, put in years in commercial production greenhouses across Texas, and has been growing, designing, and building ever since.

The work has taken him through California, Oregon, Colorado, Quebec, and British Columbia, with seasons spent learning and working in Chile, Argentina, and Spain, and through more than 200 gardens, landscapes, farms, and public spaces along the way, from small residential yards to large community and institutional grounds. Working in that many climates and cultures taught him that no single design philosophy works everywhere. A landscape has to reflect its environment, the people who care for it, and the long-term health of the land. He now runs Mauldin Horticulture from Terrace, BC, working with clients throughout Canada and beyond, with a focus on regenerative soil management, edible landscapes, ecological restoration, farm planning, and practical designs that mature well over time.

The North has become an important chapter. For three years Wesley was Horticulture Coordinator at Kitselas Five Tier System LP, overseeing the horticulture program, helping develop the K5T property, and working with leadership, trades, and students to combine sound horticultural practice with Indigenous ecological knowledge and stewardship. He has also taught in the Red Seal Landscape Horticulturist program he built with K5T and Vancouver Island University: soil science, plant systems, landscape installation, greenhouse production, and problem solving on real ground.

That depth carries into every project. The same person who draws your master plan in Vectorworks has set boulders with an excavator, installed irrigation, laid sod on public facilities, and propagated thousands of plants. The plans that come out of it are practical, buildable, and made to hold up in a demanding northern climate.

Most people in my line of work are either focused on the production aspect of growing or the aesthetic aspect of growing. What sets me apart is that I have vast experience in both of these areas. I'm uniquely well set up to serve people who want productive agriculture that is also beautiful.
Wesley Mauldin, on what he does differently

For Wesley, horticulture has never been only about planting gardens. It is about restoring soil, producing food, creating spaces that matter, and leaving every property healthier than he found it. Whether he is designing an estate garden, coordinating a farm, mentoring a crew, or helping a community build its food system, the goal stays the same: steward the land well and build landscapes that serve people for generations. The tagline on this site is his own: planting vision, growing legacy.
