Sik-E-Dakh sports field

A sports field in seven days

Sik-E-Dakh, also known as Glen Vowell, is a Gitxsan community on the Skeena River between Old Hazelton and Kispiox. The community wanted its sports field brought back to life for soccer and softball, to help draw the youth back into sport. Working with K5T students, Wesley graded the field and put in irrigation in seven days.

A bare, patchy field with a mountain behind before grading

…and after

By the end of the summer the field was level, irrigated, and in turf.

A new green field behind orange construction fencing
A wide new lawn with mountains and evening cloud behind
A small child running across the finished field with flags in hand under a big sky

None of it would have been possible without Rob Wilke, who led the crew. He is an irrigation and turf expert, and the superintendent at Skeena Valley Golf & Country Club.
